VfU environmental indicators
VfU environmental indicators are indicators published by the Verein für Umweltmanagement und Nachhaltigkeit in Finanzinstituten e. V. (VfU - Association for Environmental Management and Sustainability in Financial Institutions) that measure environmental performance based on the three pillars of sustainability: Economic, Social and Environmental. Examples of VfU environmental indicators are: Energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, water management, waste management, air and water quality, biodiversity, and sustainable land use. VfU environmental indicators have become a globally recognized standard for accounting for operational environmental indicators at financial institutions. At regular intervals of two to three years, the VfU indicators and the associated calculation tool are revised by a VfU project group to reflect the benchmarks of international environmental indicator systems (Global Reporting Initiative) and greenhouse gas footprinting standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
